First order of business: Fakes, "bad" sellers and buyers.
It's taken up a bit more of my time than I'd like, but it seems some of you have had some bad experiences with buyers, with sellers and spotting or calling out fakes.
I don't know what people expect me to do in these situations, because I can't be held responsible for how people choose to use this site.
Selling fake cigars is a big no-no, but it's also a tough thing to prove due to fakes being so high quality these days. I'm not handling each and every box that comes through here like Christie's auction house. There is literally nothing in it for me to get between every transaction.
FOH has a great thread on Cuban Factory Codes that you can check out and ask questions to a larger community (28k+ people currently).
Now, if someone is knowingly or provably selling fakes, I'd be happy to admonish them and say "Don't do it again" or even ban such a member if it's a repeated offense, but how can we prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that a box or the cigars within are not authentic? The faker would need to provide a ton of pictures and evidence incriminating themselves, leading to their own demise, so we'd literally need the faker to work against themselves to prove they are at fault.
Now, imagine another scenario. Something is posted, bought and shipped, but it's a box of sand or worse the cigars are fake, or even worse: The cigars are real but completely fucked up from bad packaging and shipping.
I can't be pulled into every little skirmish that happens here. You guys need work all this shit out for yourselves. There is the Feedback forum in the marketplace, there is the user rep button (little star under everyone's name) and now this forum. Go at it, figure it out.
Using myself as an example, you can see I have 11 positive ratings on my profile. If you make a trade or purchase from someone, take the extra two minutes to leave them a simple, short & sweet positive rating. What you're doing is encouraging good behavior and helping someone build their historical good reputation.
If you think someone is selling fakes, steer clear. Feel free to call them out in private, in public, in a plane, on a train, I don't give a fuck.
If a buyer backs out of the deal, tells you they think you stink, looks at you funny, ghosts you or doesn't pay up: Move on to the next.
By being here, you're choosing to participate in a community that is unfortunately home to some bad actors. The best thing we can do is build up our reputations to foster a history of trust within this commune. Proceed accordingly.
